The Finnish Spitz Club's in Finland main dog show and AGM was held this year in Kajaani, north-eastern Finland on 18th and 19th March 2006.
On a beautiful snowy and very cold winter day, Finnish Spitz breeders and owners from all parts of the country (as well as some from abroad) were gathered around the ring. It was the fourth time in succession that I have attended this excellent dog show, but every time I am surprised how cold it can actually get! 75 Finnish Spitz were entered. Judge Mr. Paavo Mattila had a good cross section of the breed from all parts of Finland.
The 2006 best bitch, best in breed and best in Show was a Finnish Spitz bred in Sweden, Show Champion Röjbackens Kimu. The judge's critique was: "Very beautiful bitch. Good-shaped head, with a beautiful expression, ears and neck. Excellent body structure and legs. Good backline. Excellent coat and colour. Beautiful tail. Good temperament".
Röjbackens Kimu is a four year old bitch. It is quite interesting to see that in her pedigree there are some familiar dogs. Lennek Metso of Sukunimi imported from Sweden to the UK by Alison and Steve Piearce is related to her. Röjbackens Risk can be found in both their pedigrees.
Irene congratulates the winner Röjbackens Kimu and her owner Mr. Thommy Svevar.
Best Opposite Sex was Show Champion Sävelen Mahti. The judge's critique was: "Excellent male dog. Good head and expression, good ears. Excellent body structure and legs. Good backline. Good coat and tail. Beautiful colour. Movement is excellent. Good temperament.
When I was studying Sävelen Mahti's pedigree. I made yet another interesting discovery – he is related to both our stud dogs Parri (Tihun Parri to Toveri) and Pepi (Tihun Pepi of Valokki). Mahti's grandfather is Parri's father Fin Dual Ch Ukkometon Riki., and his great-grandfather is Pepi's father Fin Dual Ch. Ukko.
On the left Fin Show Champion Röjbackens Kimu bred in Sweden by Mr Karl-Gustav Ekroos and owned by Thommy Svevar of Övermalax, Finland. On the right Fin Show Champion Sävelen Mahti bred and owned by Voitto Valtanen of Tohmajärvi, Finland.
A common sight in Finnish dog shows as Judge Mr. Mattila measures up the 2005 BOB Fin Show Champion Kirmaisten Santeri.
